Zach Richards Wins First Start, Orangeville Still Perfect

Is it possible the Orangeville Northmen are getting better as the OJLL regular season winds down? Wednesday night eight different players had multiple goals, four players finished with seven points or more, every runner except five registered a point, and Zach Richards (not Chris Origlieri) allowed just three goals in a 21-3 romp over Kitchener-Waterloo to remain unbeaten at 18-0.

Orangeville led 4-0 to start the game, and was eventually up 7-1 after the first. Through the second and third they would score 11 consecutive goals, and finished the game with three special teams markers.

Jameson Bucktooth was the only Northmen to score consecutively, leading the Northmen with five goals (and two assists), but his seven points was not a team high. That went to Liam Matthews with nine points (2 goals, 7 assists). Also ahead of Bucktooth were the eight points from Joey Spallina (8 assists) and Koleton Marquis (2 goals, 6 assists), rocketing him into second in the OJLL in points with 104, five behind Mimico’s Finn Thomson. Marquis is also fourth in the league in goals (39) and tied for second in the league in assists (65, with Spallina).

In his first OJLL start, Zach Richards stopped 39 of 42 shots for his first win of the season.

Orangeville’s final two games are both at Tony Rose Arena: July 7 against the Brampton Excelsiors (7-11) and July 9, a rematch against Kitchener-Waterloo (2-16).

KW’s other game will end the regular season at home against Six Nations (6-11) on July 11.
