Perfection! Orangeville Northmen Complete Second Ever 20-0 Season

The Orangeville Northmen are perfect! Their 20-7 win over Kitchener-Waterloo Sunday night make them the eleventh team with a perfect season, and just the second ever to go 20-0.

Orangeville was in business early on home floor scoring the first four goals of the game. Kaleb Benedict had points on three of those, including a power play goal to make it 2-0. Max Frattaroli scored the lone KW marker of the period, on Kitchener’s first of two man advantages. But, Cohen Jennings hit a shorthanded buzzer-beater to put the Northmen up 5-1 after the first.

Historically, the second period at Tony Rose is dangerous for the home team. On Sunday, the Northmen kept to the narrative with six different players putting together a nine-goal run through the first half of the second period. The first four were scored all within 1:02. Orangeville ran into penalty trouble following the first career goal for Hunter Roy. With four Northmen in the box, Nolan Barker scored on the power play. Two more Orangeville goals, both on the man advantage 17 seconds apart capped an 11-4 period.

Zach Richards replaced Chris Origlieri in Orangeville’s net for the third period. Origlieri allowed just five goals on 27 shots. Richards allowed just two through the third period off 12 shots. The Northmen ended up with four goals in the third, a 20-7 win, and a perfect 20-0 season for just the second time in OJLL history.

Joey Spallina led all runners with nine points (3 goals, 6 assists). In the second period, he tallied his seventieth assist, ending the game and season with 73, second-most in the OJLL. His 103 points are third in the league. Koleton Marquis scored four goals (and 2 assists) giving him 112 points, tied for second in the OJLL with Toronto’s Willem Firth. Owen Rahn (3 goals) and Liam Matthews (3 goals, 4 assists) also had hat tricks. Kaleb Benedict also had seven points (2 goals, 5 assists).

With Six Nations 12-10 win over Toronto, and by way of the Arrows having the tie-breaker over the Brampton Excelsiors (who lost 8-6 to Mimico Sunday), Orangeville will play Six Nations in the first round of the playoffs, which begin the week of July 12.
