OAKVILLE BUZZ STUN TORONTO BEACHES IN HOME OPENER
On Wednesday night at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre the Oakville Buzz became the final OJLL team to make their home debut. The very much rebuilding Buzz hosted a Toronto Beaches team with championship aspirations in 2025. Despite the mismatch on paper, Oakville led almost the entire game and, backed by a strong performance from Zach Constantopoulos in net, captured its first win of the season 8-5.
In the opening minute of the first period Dylan Cordingley saw his shot hit off the shoulder of Beaches starter Thomas Kiazyk. The shot bounced over the netminder and into the back of the net for Cordingley’s first goal with the Buzz. William Simmons would soon follow with his first and Cordingley scored again to put Oakville ahead 3-1 after one period.
Despite taking two penalties in the second period, the Buzz added another three goals from Jameson Steele, Finn Morgan and Liam Luzza. Peyton Booth’s ninth was the only Beaches goal of the period which saw Toronto trail 6-2.
There was no scoring through most of the first half of the final period with Kiazyk and Constantopoulos standing their ground. Killing off a major penalty nine minutes into the final frame, Booth scored shorthanded for his league-leading tenth of the season. Charlie Boon scored on the ensuing faceoff, Oakville’s only power play marker of the night. A Thomas Bagnall empty-net goal in transition capped an 8-5 Oakville win.
Zach Constantopoulos was tremendous in net for Oakville stopping 47 of 52 Beaches shots. Both Jameson Steele (1/3) and Liam Luzza (1/3) each had four points. Dylan Cordingley scored twice.
Peyton Booth (2/1) was the lone multi goal scorer for the Beaches. Hunter Lubiniecki (1/2) and Liam Aston (3 assists) also had three points. Thomas Kiazyk allowed eight goals from 50 Oakville shots.
